Will Broadway See Red? Donmar Hit Starring Alfred Molina Eyes NYC

It looks like New York may get another transfer of a well-regarded London play. John Logan’s Red, which is currently playing at the Donmar Warehouse starring Alfred Molina and directed by Donmar Artistic Director Michael Grandage, is looking for a New York venue, according to The New York Post.

Molina plays painter Mark Rothko in the piece with Eddie Redmayne as his ambitious young assistant. The two-hander, set in the 1950s, is an account of one of the greatest artists of the 20th century whose struggle to accept his growing riches and praise became his ultimate undoing.

The Post reports that Broadway producer Arielle Tepper Madover is hunting for an appropriate New York theater for the play, which has already received the seal of approval from New York Times critic Ben Brantley.

Molina most recently appeared on the New York stage in Howard Katz and starred in the Broadway revival of Fiddler on the Roof. A prolific film actor, he can currently be seen as Carey Mulligan's father in the acclaimed An Education.
